LaLa Approaches
LaLa the Ram ❖ 1066 Country Walk ❖ Winchelsea ❖ East Sussex ❖ England ❖ 21 December 2022 ❖ 10:20am
Meet LaLa. He lives next door. LaLa cannot help create lambs. But he can lead them.
LaLa is a gentle giant. Domesticated at a young age. Knows his name. Comes when called (if he so chooses.) And leads his flock of youngsters and older ewes. Where LaLa goes, they all follow. Want to relocate the flock to a different field? Find LaLa. He shall lead them all.
Each generation creates new sidekicks for LaLa. These lambs are old enough to be separate from their mums. Not old enough to have their own young. It seems at least two flank LaLa when first introduced to this flock. He does not seem to notice. It's endearing.
Occasionally I encounter him along the local footpath. I talk to him. Grab his photo. Interact. Admire. Even pet him if he draws close. We have a system. I see him in the distance. Call him. Start a conversation. Usually he is interested. I take a few pictures.
Then I crouch way down. Ram height. When he sees me in this position, he approaches. Slow. Intent. Until we are face-to-face. The ultimate show of recognition and acknowledgement. I always make a fuss. Tell him he is a good ram. A handsome ram. A wonderful ram.
Words cannot express the joy of these encounters. A tangible and true connexion to the Earth and her non-human inhabitants. I created this image to share this joy with you.
