'The Watcher' by Artist Keith Petit ❖ 1066 Country Walk ❖ Winchelsea ❖ East Sussex ❖ England ❖ 24 October 2022 ❖ 12:03pm The solid figure of a Saxon Warrior. A sentry charged with protecting his land. His people. His flock. Always ready. Weapon in hand. Never tiring. Never resting. This magnificent sculpture is one of many along the 1066 Country Walk. Artist Keith Petit was commissioned to help celebrate a re-launch of this local trek. His works placed strategically along the winding countryside trail. As with all the local points of interest, I have countless photos of this monumental work of art. When deciding on which to don one of my cards - my Visions Images - this scene immediately came to mind. The horizon reveals a hint of the sea - the English Channel - flanked by countryside greens of all shapes and flavours. Azure-blue autumnal skies dotted with white fluffy clouds above. A deep, dark green of late October leaves provide an emerald canopy - perhaps offering a gentle shade to this tireless wooden warrior. The final ingredient is the local flock of sheep. They graze fearlessly on the lush grasses. 'The Watcher' looking on, as a protector of his land. His people. His flock.
