Starflower Constellation
Starflowers (Stitchwort) ❖ Lane Verge ❖ Icklesham ❖ East Sussex ❖ England ❖ 3 May 2022 ❖ 12:23pm
English Springtime is heralded by a rainbow of blooming colours. Along winding country lanes. Sprinkled over green grassy fields. Carpeting Ancient Woodlands and local gardens. Yellows. Blues. Reds. Shades of white.
Starflowers, or stitchwort, had medicinal use in folklore. These ivory blooms cluster along the lane verges. A sprinkle of bright whites in a sea of greens and yellows and the occasional pinks. The thin, fragile-seeming stems are easily swayed by the slightest breeze. Moving air propels a swaying dance. White and yellow clusters perform a natural ballet.
When the background fades darker and white flowers more prominent, the resemblance of a starry constellation appears. As the sun retreats over the horizon, flowers close up shop for the day. Delicate petals withdraw and retire until morning. As the flowers close, the stars above begin their own nightly display. A balance between Earth and Sky. As above, so below.
